Groundhog's Day- back in the Northeast

After a trip home from Texas on Superbowl Sunday I am back in Syracuse now and wishing I wasn't....it was so nice to see and feel sun this weekend (and see some of my favorite people and a particularly special boy). I forgot how great it is to be outside in nice weather. But today it is dreary and mildly cold . And our good friend  "Punxsutawney Phil" crawled out of his stump today and saw his shadow. (what an interesting name...Maybe Brad and Angelina should use that one next...maddox, Pax, knox, and Punx) This funny Northeast tradition means 6 more weeks of winter. UGHHH!!! 6 more weeks....well that brings us to the middle of March...oh dear. I love animals especially funny ones like groundhogs so I really don't mind this pretty pointless holiday (especially since it's Brian's birthday-Happy Birthday Gh!) but I have always wondered where the hell it came from so here it is kiddies.....
"According to German superstition, if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on Feb. 2 -- the Christian holiday of Candlemas -- winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow was seen, legend said spring would come early."
